RATE OF PAY: $18.55 - $26.50/hour
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Inspects visually or with meters, and dimensional and pressure gauges. Determines necessary repairs, adjustments, lubrication, and cleaning.
* Uses knowledge of electrical and electronic theory and practice. Uses fasteners, wire and insulation, and lubricants.
* Welds simple ferrous metals on car body and major components. Changes major components such as motors, trucks, and air compressors.
* Works with hand tools, especially pliers, wrenches and screwdrivers; VOM, ammeter, and megohmeters; air and wheel gauges; portable power tools; gas cutting torches; soldering tools, torque wrenches. Maintains and repairs shops and its equipment. Performs other duties as assigned.
* Subject to call during storms and emergencies.
QUALIFICATIONS:
* High school diploma or equivalent.
* Must satisfactorily complete qualifications tests as follows basic electricity, blueprint reading, schematics, basic math, hand tools. Must satisfactorily complete performance test as required.
* Must have experience in repair of electrical, electronic, air conditioning and air brake equipment of rail vehicle equipment.
* Must satisfactorily complete manufacturer's and/or other courses required.
* Must have one (1) year satisfactorily service as a second class mechanic or electrician.
